Abstract

431,725. Fluid actuated valves. E. M. B. CO., Ltd., and SMITH, S., Moor Street, West Bromwich. March 2, 1934, No. 6700. [Class 135] [See also Group XXXIV] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.- Trip valve for railway air brakes comprises a main valve e held on its seat by air pressure and having seated on it a coaxial subsidiary valve l of smaller diameter adapted to be opened, to cause opening of the main valve e to vent the train pipe and to effect a brake application, by a stem n operated by an abutment on the track or by a lever q operated by the driver and adapted to be held open by a spring friction disc acting between the spindle r of the lever q and the valve casing. The main valve e has an overhanging part h acted on by air pressure to open it and fits closely the casing a to restrict the flow of air to the space above the valve. A block z on the spindle n may engage the stem j of the main valve e to open it.
