Abstract

238,181. Kopf, P. Aug. 7, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Automatic power control.-A locomotive is provided with two independent automatic braking devices operated from the track when a danger signal is overrun, one giving an ordinary application at an advance signal and the other an emergency application at a home signal. On passing a home signal at danger, valve 44 is opened and communication is established between the train-pipe, not shown, connected to inlet 49, and a cylinder 56. The train-pipe pressure raises a piston 55 uncovering a large vent 57, causing an emergency application and stopping the train. The piston 55 is connected with the arm 60 of a valve 61 which is opened when the piston is raised, establishing communication between the reservoir, not shown, and a pipe 65 leading to a cylinder 68, a piston 67 thereby being moved to uncover a port allowing the reservoir to vent through a whistle 69. At the same time a linkwork 73 is operated by the rod 70 of piston 67 to move a regulator, cutting off the steam supply.
