Abstract

Fluid-pressure.-To facilitate the charging of the train-pipe and the auxiliary reservoirs of compressed air brake systems of railway trains, the usual single main reservoir is replaced by two reservoirs 3, 6 one of which 6 is connected to the driver's valve and is maintained at the usual pressure somewhat in excess of the normal trainpipe pressure by means of a pressure regulating valve 8 disposed in a pipe connection 7 connecting this reservoir to the reservoir 3 in which a high pressure is maintained by the compressor 1 under the control of a pressure regulator 4. The reservoir 3 provides a reserve supply of compressed air whereby the pressure in the reservoir 6 is substantially maintained during the charging of the train pipe 12 and release of the brakes while the slight fluctuations of pressure in the reservoir 6 due to the opening and closing of the valve 8 produce a succession of air waves in the train-pipe which assists the movement of the triple valves on the vehicles of the train to the release position.
