[Classes 38 (v)] [See also Group XXXVI] A meter 9 is enclosed in a box 2 which is in sliding engagement with a member 1 fixed to the wall. The fixed member 1 is in the shape of a rectangular box of metal or insulating material and has a top wall 3 which slides in horizontal guides and is secured in place by a lead seal 16. The box 2 is formed of insulating material or stamped metal and has a glass front portion 10. Attached to the lower part of the box 2 is an insulating block 14 carrying four plug terminals 15 which engage corresponding socket terminals 5 mounted on an insulating block 4 secured to the fixed member 1. The plugs 15 and sockets 5 are not rigidly fixed to their blocks, but are free to adjust themselves. The plugs are not split, the sockets being double. The box 2 containing the meter 9 slides in vertical grooves in the fixed part 1 and may be removed, after sliding out the top 3, for substitution by a similar box carrying a different meter. For cutting-off a consumer, the meter-carrying box 2 may be reversed so that the terminals 15 are uppermost, or it may be replaced by a flat diaphragm, the top 3 then being replaced and sealed. For testing or calibrating the meter the box 2 is raised and a pair of insulating blocks carrying plugs and sockets is inserted between the blocks 14, 4 so as to engage the sockets 5 and plugs 15. Connections are made from the plugs and sockets on these auxiliary blocks to the standard meter or other testing apparatus.
