[Class 87 (ii)] In a machine for coating tubes or similar articles internally with material such as asphalt or varnishes, a container g<1> for the material is moved longitudinally along the tube and is rotated to spread the material centrifugally, the flow being automatically controlled in synchronism with the ascent and descent of the container. The container is formed with apertures g<2> adapted to be closed by an internal shutter carried by rods i attached to a disc h sliding on a shaft g carrying the container. The disc k is moved to open the shutter by striking a lever u at the end of the descent of the container and to close the shutter by striking a lever u<1> after ascending. The shaft g is rotated by bevels f, f<1> from a shaft e having fast and loose pulleys d, d<1> driven from a motor b. The shaft g is moved up and down by a rack g<4> engaged by mechanism operated from a shaft l. Levers m, n control a coupling-member n<1> so as to connect the shaft l with pulley e<1> or e<2> on the shaft e for rotation in one or the other direction. The shaft g is automatically stopped in its traverse when discs t, t<1> thereon engage corresponding levers which move a draw-rod m<2> and bring the member r<1> to a neutral position. A levigator n<5> for smoothing the lining is mounted beneath the container g<1>. Electric heating resistances are provided in the container and are connected to conductors passing through the shaft g to metal rings mounted on an insulating ring secured on the outside of the shaft. The metal rings contact with brushes on the supply leads. The tube is held in position by hinged clamping- arms p, p<1>.
