430,860. Indicating liquid levels. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., Cranford Lane, Hayes, Middlesex, and LYON, G., Ranmoor, Fulmer Road, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. June 28, 1934, No. 19119. [Class 123 (i)] [See also Group XXXVII] In an electrically operated low-level alarm, for hot liquids, a float is adapted to bridge the gap between two contacts, but means are provided to prevent operation solely by contraction of the liquid upon a fall in temperature or by drawing off the liquid. A float c moves within a cage b in a tank a above a pair of insulating pegs d, e, one of which is hollow and carries a contact point g. The other peg is adjustable in height and carries a bimetallic strip n. If the temperature is above a predetermined point, the free end of the strip n rises above the level of the ends of the pegs d, e, so that when the liquid level falls the float makes contact with the strip n and point g and completes the circuit of a warning device. If the temperature is below the predetermined point, the strip n curls so that it is out of reach of the float c and the circuit is not completed. Alternatively three pegs, two being dead, may be used, or a contact piece may be carried by the float c above the liquid level.
