S. ; 41, West Union Street, Burlington, and Arnold, P. L. ; Beverly Road, Edgewater Park, all in New Jersey, U.S.A.) Aug. 20, 1934, No. 23959. Convention date, March 22. Addition to 423,612. [Class 83 (i)] In a centrifugal pipe-casting process in which the interior of a mould is coated, by means of a gas jet, with a layer of dry pulverulent material as in the parent Specification, the invention is modified in that the pulverulent material previously used is replaced by one composed of finely divided particles intermixed with relatively large granular particles of a hard and compact non-reactive and infusible substance. The pulverulent material B, Fig. 2, may be ferro - silicon, ferro - manganese or zirconium-manganese-silicon of such fineness as to pass a sieve of approximately 150 meshes to the inch ; the granular material C may be silver sand or carborundum of such particle size that it will pass a sieve of 20, or more preferably, 30 meshes to the inch while approximately 75 per cent of the material is retained in a sieve of 50 meshes to the inch. A jet of carrier gas is passed through the nozzle F<2>, Fig. 1, while the materials of the coating are fed into the hopper F' from the feeding devices G, g ; the coating materials being then directed against the inner surface of the mould through the nozzle E in advance of the molten metal which is fed through the spout C<1>.
