Abstract
429,806. Switch and fuse contaots. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, London, and WOOD, H. G., Kinross, Leesons Hill, Chislehurst, Kent. April 18, 1934, No. 11671. [Class 38 (v)] Self-aligning contacts for electric switches, fuses, &c. which are adapted to engage between fixed contact jaws each consist of a stirrup part hung from a holder part, a contacting part being secured to the stirrup part and having its free ends so formed that when inserted between the jaws the ends are laterally supported or reinforced by the stirrup part. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the contact is supported by a stirrup 1 of steel or hard copper which is formed at its upper end 2 so as to be slid into a dovetail slot 13 in the fuse &c. holder 12, being retained therein by a plate 8 formed with a retaining tongue 10 projecting into a corresponding recess in the holder. The contacting part 3 is secured by a bolt 5 to the base of the stirrup and has its free ends bent backwardly parallel to the side of the stirrup to engage the fixed jaws 15. The tips 4 of the free ends are bent inwardly towards the stirrup so that when the fuse is forced home they bear laterally on the sides of the stirrup and provide an adequate contact pressure. Self-alignment of the contacts is assured by the loose fit of the stirrup within the dovetail slot 13. Instead of forming bent-over portions 4 of the contacting member studs or blocks may be secured to the free ends so as to bear on the stirrup when the contact is forced home. The fuse wire may be secured beneath a nut secured on the inner end of the bolt S and may pass through an asbestos tube.
