Abstract
429,478. Motors; R÷ntgen-ray apparatus. MULLER AKT.-GES., C. H. F., 24, R÷ntgenstrasse, Hamburg, Germany. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31502. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1933. [Class 35] In an induction motor having star-connected stator phase windings two of which are connected directly and the third through a condenser 5 to a single phase supply 2, 3, the condenser is shunted by a voltage indicator 6 whereby movement of the rotor 7 is detected. The invention is based upon the increase of voltage across the condenser when rotation commences and the indicator may comprise a glow discharge lamp which lights up at the increased voltage. A potentiometer may be connected across the condenser, the glow discharge lamp being connected thereto by fixed and adjustable contacts so that it glows when the rotor starts or is rotating at a desired speed. The invention is specially applicable to X-ray tubes having anodes rotated by external windings wherein it is difficult to detect the movement of the rotor. In such an application, the potentiometer resistance 11 may be wound around a cap 10 partly enclosing the lamp 9. A ring 12 surrounding the cap carries a contact 15 making a sliding connection with the resistance wire whereby rotation of the ring varies the potential applied to the lamp. The apparatus may be mounted on the X-ray tube or on the switchboard.
