Abstract

428,890. Machines for working land. FOWLER & CO. (LEEDS), Ltd., J., Steam Plough & Locomotive Works, and STOREY, N. C., 13, Leathley Road, Hunslet, both in Leeds. May 4, 1934, No. 13562. [Class 6 (i)] [See also Groups XXXI and XXX] A hoisting device is mounted in front of a tractor and is driven from the front end of the engine shaft. The hoist is a unit mounted in a separate frame or gear-box, is driven through reversing gear, and may raise and lower a soil-working assembly which is located at the rear of the tractor and is driven from the rear end of the engine. In the construction shown an implement is pivoted at 50 on the rear of the tractor and is raised and lowered by chains 47 passing over chain wheels 46 fixed on a hoisting shaft 41 mounted on a casing 12 fixed to side plates 13 in front of the engine of the tractor. The shaft 41 is driven from the front end of the engine shaft 1 by means of a shaft 4 coupled to the engine shaft, spur gears 9, 17 driving a shaft 14, reversing gearing 26, 29 between shaft 14 and another shaft 27, chain gearing 36, and worm gearing 34, 42. The reversing gear comprises a spur gear train 25 and a chain gear train 29, the trains being controlled by a double sliding friction clutch 23 controlled by a hand lever 66. The worm wheel 42 carries a stop 74, and when the implement is fully raised or lowered this stop acts on a lever 73 and disengages the clutch of the reversing gear. Instead of the chain gear 46, 47 for raising the implements, the shaft 41 may drive cranks or hydraulic apparatus.
