Abstract

428,551. Vehicle anti - skid devices. PARRY, T. J., Petton Hall, Burlton, Shrewsbury. Dec. 13, 1933, No. 35050. [Class 108 (ii)] An anti-skid device comprises a pair of independently rotatable wheels mounted on a shaft adapted to be tilted by a road-surface contacting element normally held out of engagement with the road surface but adapted to be brought into engagement with the road by manual operation. As shown two horizontal members 2 are clipped to the axle and to the tongue shaft of the vehicle, a third transverse member 3 is secured to the ends of the members 2 and a pair of triangular plates 4 depend from the member 3. Upon a pin 5 on the lower end of the plates 4 a tiltable shaft 7 is pivotally shackled and upon this shaft 7 are mounted spur wheels 8 and a road-contacting element 9 the latter having also a spring 10 tending to elevate the element. The element 9, when desired, is brought into operation by means of a cord 11 acting along the axis of the pin 5 and preferably from the brake lever. Side movement of the vehicle then causes the shaft 7 to tilt bringing one of the wheels 8 into contact with the road tending to press its teeth into the road and prevent side skid. The other wheel 8 contacts with the plates 4 and so limits the downward movement of the road-contacting wheel. The device may be adjusted.
