Abstract
Acetol is produced by treating liquid glycerol with a dehydrogenating catalyst at 200--300 DEG C., condensing the vapours, and fractionating the condensate. In examples: (1) cold glycerol is dropped upon a copper chromite catalyst at 240--260 DEG C.; (2) a copper oxide wire catalyst is employed in a similar manner.
