Abstract
428,236. Supports for electric incandescent lamp filaments. GROTE, E. R., c/o British Electric Lamps, Ltd., Spencer Hill Road, Wimbledon, London. Nov. 20, 1933, No. 32300. [Class 39 (ii)] The filament 4, Fig. 1 of a tubular electric lamp is mounted upon pigtails 3 carried by a longitudinal supporting-tube 2 which is maintained in position by resilient saddles 7 formed from flat metal strip bent to a shallow U- shape with a central yoke portion adapted to clip upon the tube 2, and outwardly extending limbs 9 which bear upon the inner wall 1 of the lamp. The saddles are preferably made of stainless steel. Rotation of the tubular filament support 2 relatively to the saddles is prevented by securing within the former a small upstanding wire loop 8, Fig. 3, in line with the pigtails 3, so that it will be engaged between the limbs of a saddle 7. To prevent longitudinal movement of the filament support each leading-in wire 5 is provided with a right-angled bend 5<a> which engages the adjacent end of the tube 2, the horizontal portion of the leading-in wire preferably being pinched within the bottom portion of the saddle at 7<a>. The leading-in wires 5 are subjected to tension during the process of sealing them within the pip 6, thereby retaining the free ends of the limbs of the saddles against the inner wall of the lamp body 1. The yoke of a saddle may be extended in both directions 9<a> to provide means for connecting the ends of two lengths of filament support 2. Specification 304,882, [Class 39 (ii)], is referred to.
