Abstract
428,210. Strainers. ANDALE CO., 1600, Arch Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A.- (Assignees of McNeal, D. R.) Sept. 29, 1933, No. 26871. Convention date, Feb. 20. [Class 46] [See also Group XXVIII] A cleansing compartment through which the parts of a rotary strainer pass successively for cleansing by reverse flow is provided with sealing plates of rubber or similar resilient material to prevent leaking of the liquid under treatment into the compartment. A rotating disc strainer comprises a straining element 22, formed by winding together a flat and a corrugated strip and held in position on a wheel having a hub 13, spokes 14 and an outer rim 15 by a second wheel having a hub 16, spokes 17 and an outer rim 18. The hub 13 is keyed on a shaft 10 extending through a casing formed of upper and lower parts 43, 27 bolted together. Fluid supplied through an inlet connection 32 passes through the strainer to an outlet connection 39. Inner casings A, B are arranged opposite one another on either side of the straining element, so that as the element rotates the sections of the element between adjacent spokes are successively cleaned by flow of fluid from the casing A to the casing B. The casings A, B are bolted on to the lower portion 27 of the outer casing and the inner spaces of the casings are connected respectively by passages in the part 27 with pipes 51, 49, Fig. 3, for the supply and discharge of the cleansing fluid. On the side towards the straining element the casing A has a cover plate 59 and over that a plate 62 of rubber or other resilient material which makes joint with the spokes 17. Cleansing fluid from the casing A passes through a slot in the plate 59 and an aperture in the plate 62 which is sector-shaped to correspond, with the space between adjacent spokes 17. The casing B has a similar cover plate 70 and plate 71 of resilient material both provided with sector-shaped openings. The plates 62 and 71 are of such a size as to contact simultaneously with at least four spokes of the wheel and thus make an effective joint against the passage of liquid under treatment or cleansing fluid. Joint is made between the rim 15 and the inner wall of the outer casing by means of a rubber ring 81 which may be vulcanized on a metallic ring 82 carried by the rim 15. More than one pair of casings A, B may be provided. In a modified form of apparatus, for use when a liquid under pressure is being strained, the plates on the face of the casing A have no passages therethrough and impurities separated by the strainer are drawn.off through the casing B without the aid of cleansing fluid.
