Abstract

265,679. Mount, W. D. Aug. 12, 1925. Rotary filters. - Material under filtration, into which a rotary suction filter drum dips, is caused to travel through a closed channel in contact with and in the same direction as the periphery of the drum. The filter drum 7 dips into a part-cylindrical trough 2 forming an inner compartment of a container 1. The material enters an end compartment B through a pipe 3, overflows into the trough, and is in part filtered by the drum while excess passes over the opposite adjustable edge 5 into a compartment A having a discharge pipe 6. The liquid in the trough is thus moving in the same direction as the filter. The filtering surface is formed by a cloth 24 wound over peripherally arranged grids 19, each of which forms, with the wall 18 of the drum, a separate compartment. Pipes 33 connect each compartment with either hub against which fixed valves are pressed by springs 55, so that the compartments of the filter communicate successively with pipes through which the filtrate, the first wash water and the second wash water are separately drawn and with other pipes which successively relieve the vacuum and supply air under pressure to loosen the cake as it approaches a scraper 83. The wash water is supplied through nozzles 72 on pipes 71 supported by carriages 69 with rollers running in guides on the hubs. The carriages are oscillated from mechanism which rotates the strainer. Resilient gaskets 66 fixed to flanges 65 on the trough 2 make joint with the ends of the drum.
