[Class 17 (i)] A last has separate toe and heel parts a, b respectively hinged to a connecting link c, the surface of separation running generally downwards and rearwards from the instep and being of two curvatures, concave to the heel part in its upper portion and concave to the toe part in its lower portion. The construction facilitates insertion and removal by allowing the edge k to slide along the surface of separation. Both pivots are below the line of greatest length of the last. This construction is stated to render the last self-locking in use.
