[Class 132 (ii)] Relates to a wheeled machine for marking lines on roads, ways, tennis courts, &c. wherein a feed-regulating means actuated from a road wheel supplies paint to a distributing device and consists in that the feed-regulating means is a pump of the geared wheel type arranged to supply paint under pressure to the paintdistributing device, and means is provided for driving the pump at will at different speeds. The paint in a container 36 is admitted through a valve (controlled by a knob 49) to the pump 42 of the geared wheel type and thence to the distributing device 45 which is in the form of a T-shaped nozzle having at the bottom a longitudinal aperture 50, Figs. 8 and 9. A rotary valve 52 having radial ribs some of which are notched along the whole length or a portion thereof, may be turned within the distributer body to allow the paint to pass through the notches, and deposit on the rod streams of paint which are afterwards brushed in by brushes 94 to form one broad line or one narrow line or two parallel lines according to the setting of the valve 52. The pump 42 is driven by means of a two-speed gear from the axle of the front road wheels 29, so that the supply of paint may be regulated according to the need at a particular time. The distributing nozzle is supported on a universal joint 43 and may be adjusted in a transverse direction by means of a Bowden wire when travelling along a banked road surface. The brushes 94 are carried on a pivoted frame 86 and may be raised off the road surface by operating a handle 114 connected to the pivoted frame by links 120, 116, 119. Simultaneously, a drippan 106 secured to the handle moves under the raised brushes. One of the brushes is replaced by a spacing member when marking two parallel lines. Vertical side plates 102 define the outer edges of the lines. The paintdistributing member may be arranged to deliver the paint in the form of spray instead of in fine streams. A tank 112 for cleaning the brushes is provided. The lid of the paint container 36 is formed in two parts hinged together, one of the parts being held down by a bail screw 124.
