[Class 69 (ii)] [See also Group XXVI] A rotary engine or pump of the type shown is provided with a rotor 4 having a fixed axis coinciding with a shaft 2, and a stator 17 which is slidable vertically, to vary the eccentricity of the rotor to the stator. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to a machine comprising a two cylinder pump contained by a slidable stator 17, which supplies a two cylinder engine 38 on a second shaft 30. The engine stator is fixed. A double - headed valve controls the flow of liquid from the pump to the engine according to the direction of rotation in which the engine is to be driven. In the pump, the stator has a web 11 with axial extensions 9 upon which the inner races 8 of bearings 7, which support the vanes 5, are held. The stator is moved manually by means of a thread 16, or it may be actuated automatically under pressure control or by a governor. The casing 1 is filled with liquid such as a light oil. The vanes may be pressed outwards by liquid under pressure, and channels 12 are provided for leakage. The tips of the vanes preferably form arcs of the same circle, and the vanes may be divided, the two parts being pressed apart by springs. The vanes are spaced angularly to one another in the two rotors, both in the pump and engine. The engine may be duplicated on two shafts which may be the driving axles of a motor car, so that a differential gear effect may be obtained. In a modified arrangement, the pump and engine shafts are not in alignment, but parallel within a casing filled with liquid. The eccentricity of the pump rotor may be altered to secure reverse drive of the motor shaft. The motor may be the variable unit, and the pump of fixed capacity, or variable.
