425,755. Air rifles and pistols. HILL, A. H., 68, Holliday Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. Sept. 23, 1933. No. 36939/34. Divided out of 425,555. [Class 119] An air rifle or pistol is provided with a retractible breech - bolt which is capable of a guided longitudinal movement along the axis of the barrel and of a partial rotation in a plane at right-angles to the said axis, the longitudinal sliding movement serving to position a pellet in the breech and to close and open the breech, and the partial rotation serving to lock and unlock the bolt when the said bolt is in its breech closing position. In one form, Fig. 1, a conical shoulder 28a on the bolt 28 is adapted to seat against a conical recess 9<a> at the breech end of the barrel 9. A hollow projection 28d at the front end of the bolt has a lateral inlet 28<c>, and is adapted to push a pellet 29 to the discharge position while allowing free passage of air from the port 30 through the bolt to the rear of the pellet. The bolt has a handle 28<e> and a lug 28b, which guides the bolt in a longitudinal slot in the upstanding part 10<b> during the longitudinal moment of the bolt and engages a cam face on the front of the part 10<b> to lock the bolt firmly in position during its partial rotation. In a modification, the bolt has a flattened front projection and is rotatably mounted in a collar provided with a pair of rods guided longitudinally on the body 10.
