Abstract

In the recovery of heat sensitive dry products from milk, fruit juices, blood sera, &c., the liquid is first concentrated by freezing and after separation of the ice is subjected to rapid spray drying or drum-drying, preferably vacuum drum drying. In the case of milk the cream is first separated by centrifuging, the skim milk is concentrated by freezing, if necessary in stages, and the cream is added to the concentrate prior to the drying operation. The separated ice may be used in known manner for precooling the milk or for cooling part of the refrigerating plant. Rubber latex, tannin extracts, synthetic urea solutions, coffee extracts, and other substances may be treated by the process.
