425,441. Uniting by fusion. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 28, 1934, No. 19123. Convention date, July 1, 1933. [Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXVI] Comprises power - driven work - rotating apparatus to facilitate welding together the ends of a number of pipe lengths which have been previously joined by tack welds. The pipe lengths 11, 12, 13 are mounted on dollies 14 and their ends connected by tack welds 15. A flexible rope 22 is wrapped around a pipe and connected to a reel 16 on a shaft 17 supported on pedestals on a truck 10. The reel 16 is driven through gearing by an electric motor 19. A strut 24 consisting of members 25, 26 secured by a turn buckle and provided with a yoke 28 carrying rollers engaging the rope on the work, is pivoted on the shaft 17. In a modification, a split sprocket wheel is mounted on a rubber strip on the pipe and is driven by chain gearing. The yoke rollers engage a track on the side of the sprocket-wheel. The turn-buckle may be replaced by a cylinder and fluid-operated piston. The truck 10 may support an arc-welding generator and leads, or a gas generator, tanks and hoses for the welding.
