Abstract
425,356. Flexible abrasive articles. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. ; 791, Forest Street, St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A.) June 7, 1933, No. 35859/34. Divided out of 425,298. [Class 60] A flexible abrasive article, e.g. sand-paper, which is water insoluble and is adapted for liquid abrading operations, includes a backing of a flexible waterproof nature having an ingredient such as silica tending to increase adhesion to the operator's fingers in use. One or more back coatings may contain the ingredient. In an example, the sand-paper &c., is furnished with a back coating containing vegetable drying oils, bitumen, soap, isinglass, water and oleum spirits ; and an auxiliary coating comprising nitrocellulose, drying oil, ground silica, resin and plasticizer. The coatings allow limited penetration of liquid which enhances flexibility in use. Specifications 425,298, 425,350, and 425,355 are referred to.
