[Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] Rotary machines; feeding webs.-In a machine for delivering gummed strip paper and the like, a printing-roller 21, Fig. 3, for printing on the roll 15 of strip is mounted so that it may rock about an axis substantially tangential to the roll so as to accommodate itself to irregularities in the roll surface. The roller 21 and its spring-pressed inking-roller 24 are mounted in a cradle 23 connected by pivots 31, 32 to a frame 33 pivoted at its lower end and pressed by a spring 35 to hold the roller 21 normally in contact with the roll 15. The pivots 31, 32 are arranged midway of the length of the roll and substantially in the common tangent between the roller 21 and roll 15. The sides of the frame 33 embrace the ends of the roll to hold it against lateral movement and to one side of the frame is secured a spring strip or a spring-pressed strip engaging the end of the roll. The roller 21 may be held out of engagement with the roll 15 by turning a member 40 pivoted on the shaft of the roller 21 so that a roller 41 engages the surface of the roll. A spring catch 42 normally holds the member 40 in the inoperative position shown. The roll 15 may be mounted upon a spindle 17, Fig. 4, having a central boss 20 about which the roll may rock and adjust itself evenly against the surface of the roller 21.
