Abstract
424,235. Catching insects. BOUTELLIER, P., 16, Rue Pasteur, Levallois- Perret, Seine, France. Feb. 12, 1934, No. 4555. [Class 5 (i)] An insect trap comprises a luminous source such as a mercury-vapour lamp a and suction means such as an electric fan c for drawing insects enticed by the light into a part b of the apparatus, the source a being surrounded by a cylindrical or polyhedral casing, the lateral walls of which comprise one or more transparent or translucent coloured screens 1-8. The screens 1-8 may adjoin or may be separated by opaque screens Y and spaces X, are slidably mounted in the casing and may be all of different colours or all the same. The bottom of the casing is formed by a reflector i, the source a being thus protected from the suction draught ; the reflector may be adjustably mounted so as to adjust the suction passage k. The apparatus may be surmounted by a bowl or sphere m coated with a phosphorescent or fluorescent substance, an annular basin filled with water or petroleum may be provided around the inlet k and an electric killing device may also be fitted. In a modification, one or several opaque screens is or are rotatably mounted inside or outside the casing to vary the luminous intensity by occultation ; such screens are driven by the incoming suction air and means may be provided for varying the speed of rotation.
