Abstract
424,211. Discharge lamps. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(National Television Corporation; 100, West 10th Street, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.) Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23364. [Class 39 (i)] A lamp for television &c., has a filling of gas and metal vapour and a restricted and elongated discharge path 61 between the electrodes, one of which consists of an openwork structure and encloses across-sectional area greater than that of the discharge path. For continuous-current working, the anode 66 consists of a cap of pressed nickel and the cathode 72 consists of a strip of wire mesh wound on the support 70 ; the internal diameter of the cathode may be greater than that of the support. For alternating - current working, a wire-mesh anode may be used. Dimensions of the electrodes and of the glass or quartz bulb, and values of current and voltage are given in the Specification. The electrodes may be formed of molybdenum, iron, tantalum, tungsten, and the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Monel." The filling may comprise gases such as neon, argon, helium, krypton, xenon and a vapour such as mercury, rubidium, caesium or sodium; it may consist of neon at 10 mm. and mercury. For starting, the electrodes are connected through a spark gap 80 to a source of high-frequency currents which comprises an interrupter 82, a switch 84 and a battery 83.
