[Class 135] [See also Groups VIII and XIII] Valves controlled by pilot or relay.-The watercontent of paper or other sheets or webs is regulated automatically by hydraulic regulator actuated conjointly by two or more factors associated with drying. The damping member j of the servomotor H is jointly affected by the steam pressure in the main D which supplies the dryer rolls A, B, a tube m communicating with a chamber m<1> containing bellows m<2> &c., and by the web tension, a balanced roller N carried by a shaft O &c. being connected by a spring o &c. with the member j. Liquid is supplied at k and flows continuously from an orifice i<2> beneath the member j which thus varies the pressure in the cylinder H and actuates the valve E in the main D. If the paper is deflected abnormally by the roller N, a rod p<2> encounters a projection j<2> and causes the valve E to close. In modifications ; the piston G is connected with a rheostat to control the speed of the machine, and with the member to reduce hunting; or the piston G is connected with the valve E, with a rheostat controlling the speed of the machine and by wires and a cam &c. with a valve in the pipe supplying water to the pump which feeds the flow-box of the paper-making machine.
