[Class 61 (iii)] Wrenches ; screwdrivers.-A device for setting the clearance of valve tappet screws avoiding the use of feelers comprises a holder B carrying a sleeve A provided with a fixed disc C and upstanding pin c and having rotatable thereon a second disc D with pin d. The discs may be set to any predetermined angular relation of the pins c, d by means of a scale d<4> and fixed in this position by a screw d<3> and slot d<2>, after which a tool E with screwdriver point e<2> or socket to engage the rocker adjustment screw is passed through sleeve A and rotated until the rocker screw contacts with valve stem, the arm B and discs moving with the tool, whereupon arm B is held fast and the tool slacked back, the stud e projecting from the tool moving from stud c to stud d ; each division of scale d<4> may be adapted to correspond with a setting of a thousandth of an inch of the tappet screw. A modification, Fig. 7, for use with side valves comprises a guide member F with V-mouth f and a spanner member H with circular head rotatable in curved guides f<1> ; member F carries a curved scale g and adjustable stop g<1> with pin g<2> coacting with pin h on member H which latter is movable between stop pins g<2>, f<3>. In a further modification, Fig. 13, the relative movement between member H and guide member F<1> is determined by an incline k<4> on a slide K adjustable along the shank of the member H by means of a scale H<4>.
