423,115. Wheel arrangements; spring suspensions. SARGENT, W. D., 52, Park Place, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. Aug. 31, 1933, No. 24227. [Class 108 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] In wheel units of the kind in which to allow universal movement the wheels are mounted at both sides and ends of a rocking beam on transverse axles or supports capable of rocking movements relative to said beam, means are provided for limiting angular movement both of the rocking beam and of the transverse supports. In the construction shown applied to spring-suspended driving wheels, the wheels are mounted on axles 45 rotatable in tubular supports 44 free to swing on pivots 43 carried by a rocking beam 25 which is connected to the chassis frame 36 by a pair of springs 41 shackled at each end. The beam 25 is formed at each end with brackets 55 having resilient non- metallic pads 54 which limit the tilting movements of the supports 44, and one of the brackets has an upper pad 56 adapted to engage a bearing pad on the chassis frame to limit rocking of the beam 25. A chain limits the movement of the adjacent end of the beam away from the bearing pad. The central part of the beam 25 is connected to the frame by a radius rod 37 which is ball-jointed at one end to the frame at 38 and has at its other end a bearing 39 on bosses 40 formed on the beam 25.
