Abstract

422,848. Glass manufacture. TRIPLEX SAFETY GLASS CO., Ltd., 1, Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London, and SCORAH, L. V. D., Triplex Works, Eccleshall Road, King's Norton, Birmingham. July 15, 1933, No. 20094. [Class 56] Relates to a method of making a hollow glass stopper which has re-entrant angles, as shown in Fig. 1, and is ground to fit the mouth of a vessel. According to the invention, the glass is blown in an undivided mould 2, Fig. 2, formed with broad slots 3 in its walls into which cheeks 4, carried by the limbs of a pair of tongs, can be inserted to form the re-entrant portions of the stopper. The lower portion 1 of the mould cavity is conical, so that the lower portions of the stoppers are of uniform taper. The conical portions are ground accurately to a standard taper by the method described in Specification 422,847. The bottom of the mould is formed by a plug 6 which has slots 8 in its edge to allow escape of air when a stopper is being blown. The mould and the tongs may be heated electrically.
