Abstract

422,636. Gas condensing and washing processes. WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Darlington, GRANT, A. G., 86, Coniscliffe Road, and TAYLOR, A. E., 12, Cedar Road, both in Darlington. Sept. 14, 1933, Nos. 25465 /33 and 26419/34. [Class 55 (ii)] Fuel gases are dehydrated and naphthalene, benzene, and gum forming compounds removed therefrom by continuously spraying the gas with a mixture of brine and naphthalene solvent such as gas oil. The gas-is treated in a tower A fitted with nozzles Z, through which the washing liquid is projected, and with baffles a<3> which cause the gas flowing upwardly to take a zigzag path. Spray particles are removed from the gas by tower rings packed in a section a<4> and the gas is reheated before distribution by a reheater C. The brine flows from a separator B to a cooler G and is recycled to the sprayers Z by a pump H, the oil from the separator mixing with the brine prior to entering the pump H. Part of the brine-oil mixture may be byepassed to a separator S, brine-freed oil being removed from the system through a pipe b<8> and oil-freed brine concentrated in an evaporator F before re-entering the system through a funnel X. The brine-freed oil may be purified of its benzene, naphthalene, and gum forming compounds, and the stripped oil or fresh oil returned to the system. The brine cooler G is chilled by an evaporating ammonia stream flowing through the pipes c, c from a compression refrigerating plant M-K. Benzene may be separately recovered from the impure oil in a debenzolizing plant. Specification 376,257, [Group XIII], is referred to.
