July 3, 1933, Nos. 18821 /33, 30370 /33, 2518 /34, and 15756/34. [Class 108 (i)] In refuse carts and other containers an arcuate duct or curved tube is provided which is rotatable about a horizontal axis and is normally disposed curved upwards with an open mouth at one end against which a dust bin is adapted to be secured, the other end entering an opening in the vehicle body and means are provided for rotating the duct with the bin to discharge the contents of the bin into the vehicle &c. As shown, the duct is formed in two telescopic parts 7, 8 pivoted on a shaft 9, the open outer horizontal end having sealing means 15 against which a dust bin may be secured, while the other end 12 passes into an opening into the vehicle body. The bin is placed in a cradle 31 which is then raised by means of a cable 28 in a fixed vertical duct 23 until the bin abuts the mouth 15 of the arcuate duct 7, 8 which then rotates to shoot the contents into the vehicle. The upper part of the duct 23 may be closed at the side by a part 18 fixed to and rotating with the duct 7, 8. The bin is guided by channels 35 until it is engaged by guides in the arcuate duct 7, 8. The cable and duct 7, 8 may be driven by a motor 11 which is controlled by switches 39 or may be automatically controlled by means of members such as 35, 25<a> mounted on the cradle 31 and arcuate duct 7, 8. In a modification, the arcuate duct may be in one piece and the bin held against the sealing mouth 15 by means of a hook forming part of a member pivoted to the duct 7, 8 and engaging a fixed cam slot. In another form the arcuate duct may have a vertical depending portion against which the bin is secured by a cam, the arcuate duct with its vertical depending portion then being rotated to discharge the contents. Guides may be provided in the interior of the body to distribute the refuse to various parts and the body may be rocked about a pivot for the same purpose and tipped about the same pivot to discharge its contents. A bar may be provided whereby the motor is stopped in the event of an obstruction to the raising of the bin.
