Abstract

421,282. Brackets. HARRIS & SHELDON, Ltd., 31, Stafford Street, Birming. ham, and DUNNETT, D., 77, Clarendon Gardens. Wembley, Midlesex. June 13. 1933, No. 16833. [Class 52 (v)] [See also Groups XXIII and XXV] A bracket for attaching articles to the frames of glass panels, e.g. for mounting a windscreen-wiper or glare-guard on the frame of a vehicle windscreen, or for attaching articles to the frames of show cases, windows, &c., comprises a pair of spaced frame-engaging parts 4, 5, the part 5 fitting between the frame and the glass, and an arm 1 extending inwardly of the frame and adapted to bear against, or carry a part for engaging, the glass. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the bracket comprises aT-shaped plate to the horizontal cross bar 2 of which is riveted a plate 4 provided at its ends with rearwardly-set upstanding prongs 5 adapted to be inserted between the glass 6 and the edge of the metal channel frame 7, being pressed into the rubber lining 8. Screws 9 pass through the members 2, 4 opposite the points of the prongs 5 and have hardened pointed ends adapted to bite into the frame. The shank 1 of the bracket is bent forward at 10 to engage the glass. The windscreen wiper 11 is carried by a bracket arm 12 secured by a screw 13 in one of a number of vertically spaced holes 14 in the shank 1. The screws 9 may be inclined so as to draw the prongs 5 into the channel 7. The prongs 5 may be attached directly to the plate 1 and have screw pins passing through holes in the plate 1 so that by tightening nuts on these pins the prongs are drawn towards the plate. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the plate 1 has projecting prongs 15 at its upper end and a pronged plate 16 secured to it and inserted between the frame and the glass. The lower end of the plate carries one or more screws 19 engaging the glass and adapted to be tightened to tilt the bracket away from the screen (with slight distortion of the channel if desired) and cause the plate 16 to grip the edge of the channel. The upper end of the plate 1 may be forked to embrace closely the lower edge of the channel and the plate may be springy and shaped so that its lower end engages the glass, or a separate spring engaging the glass may be attached to the plate. The forked part may be provided with ratchet teeth or friction material to grip the edge of the channel.
