420,741. Tobacco pipes &c. MINTON, P. H., 31, Elmwood Avenue, Chatham, New Jersey, U.S.A. April 4, 1934, No. 10221. Convention date, April 12, 1933. [Class 130] An absorbent filter cartridge, for insertion in the stem of a tobacco pipe or a cigar &c. holder consists of a tubular body of absorbent material, the bore of which is lined with means having a number of spaced projections 12 extending in various directions into the bore and terminating within the bore. The projections serve to prevent the passage of tobacco &c. particles or oily or tarry matter through the bore. As shown, the cartridge is formed of absorbent paper sheet or like material wound spirally to form a number of layers, the projections 12 being formed by tongues struck up from the inner layer. An outer layer 13 of impervious material suchas "Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark) may be provided. In a modification, the projections may be formed by tongues projecting from the edges of the strip material used to form the cartridge.
