Abstract

420,699. Safety razors. DARWINS, Ltd., and BROWN, W., Templeborough, Sheffield. July 28, 1933, Nos. 21215 /33 and 3209 /34. [Class 30] The hollow-ground blade 12 is clamped against a hooked sec curing-lug 11, form ing part of a body member, such as a handle 10, Fig. 2 by a guard-plate 13 guided by means such as a stem 17 slidably engaging a hole in the body. member, and pressed upwardly against the blade by a screw - device such as 19, extending into the hole in the body-member. The guard-plate is further guided by engagement of a reduced part 16 of the lug 11 with a notch in the guard-plate. Upturned lugs 15 at the rear edge of the guard-plate align the blade thereon, and spring-loaded balls or other end-stops may be provided on the guard-plate for endwise location of the blade. In Fig. 2 the stem 17 is either secured to the guard and advanced axially by the screw end-knob 19, or is rotatably connected to the guard and screws directly in the handle. The screw-connection may be replaced by a pin-and-helical-slot arrangement. Modified clamping-means comprise a spring- loaded cup 25, Fig. 5, secured to the guard and adapted to clamp the latter rigidly against the blade, by screwing the end of the handle 28 against a collar 26, which, after compressing the spring 23, abuts directly on the cup, as shown. The handle-end may bear directly on the cup or guard. To provide an aligned position for storage, the handle may be screwed into a tapped hole in the lug 11, or through the lug and into a tapped hole in the rear of the blade. The blade has tapped holes 30 at each end to receive the handle for stropping or shaving purposes. The guard plate may have a projecting rear rib bearing against the blade, or it may be shaped to fit the blade closely.
