Abstract

420,565. Optical systems. LEITZ GES., E., Optical Works, Wetzlar, Germany. March 10, 1934, No. 7654. Convention date, April 1, 1933. [Class 97 (i)] In an optical reflecting device comprising a pentagonal prism with a roof-edge extension C, D, the extension is arranged with its generators at an angle to the plane of a principal section of the pentagonal prism, and the surface of emergence E is arranged at an angle to the generators of the prism. The angle between the surface E and the generators is equal to the angle between the generators of the roof-edge extension and the plane of a principal section of the pentagonal prism so that rays incident normally on the surface A will, after reflection at the surface B and the roof edge surfaces C, D, emerge normally from the surface E. The prism causes rotation of the image through a small angle in the image plane and avoids the use of a separate prism for this purpose in stereoscopic &c. instruments in which the two partial ray paths are at a small angle to one another. If it is desired to deflect the emergent rays through a further angle, one or more additional prisms, which may be formed integrally with the main prism, are used.
