[Class 130] Cigarette and like extinguishers and rests.- In a receptacle having holes or sockets 5 for receiving and extinguishing cigarettes, cigars, &c., the holes or sockets are made somewhat larger in diameter than the cigarette &c. to be extinguished and are each formed or provided internally near the bottom with a shoulder 8 for engagement by the burning end of the cigarette, to prevent any substantial contact between the latter and the wall of the socket. In one form, Fig. 1, the sockets 5 are provided in the wall of a hollow cylinder 1 fitted centrally with a removable ash receptacle 2. A detachable cigarette rest 12 consists of a looped wire formed with a coil 10 fitted in an opening 11. In modifications, (1) the sockets 5 are formed throughout or at their lower ends with a metal or other lining 32, Fig. 3 ; (2) tapered extinguishing tubes 34, Fig. 4, are carried by a top plate 33 and are formed near their rounded lower ends with shoulders 36 ; (3) the shoulder 8 is formed by a metal coil 41, Fig. 6 ; (4) the tube 42, Fig. 7, is progressively reduced at 43, 44 ; (5) the tube 50, Fig. 10, is provided with a bent wire 51, 52 which can be rotated against the wall of the tube to facilitate removal of a cigarette end ; and (6) the socket and its lining are oval in section, for extinguishing oval cigarettes.
