[Class 19] [See also Groups XXVIII and XXIX] The brush or brushes for applying paint or the like to a surface are mounted on a rotary member and are displaced from the axis thereof. The brushes may, as shown at 32, be mounted at the periphery of a plate 33 adapted to be rotated through spur gearing 26 enclosed in a handle 23 and flexible shafting 28 by an electromotor 29 supported by springs 31 on a frame 30 which may be carried on the back of an operator. Alternatively, the shaft 25 carrying the plate 33 may be driven through reduction gearing by an electromotor mounted on the handle, or by a fluid motor operated by an aircompressor by which paint may be supplied to the brushes. Such compressor may comprise inner and outer casings 1, 2 enclosing a paint container 3. A detachable cover 4 carries an electromotor 6 which drives a piston pump 7 through reduction gearing. This pump sucks air through an automatic non-return valve 12 and forces it through a pipe 13 into the inner casing 2. An immersed tube 16 in the paint supplies it under the pressure of the compressor, which is limited by a safety valve, through a three-way valve 18 to a feed tube 20 by which it is led past a control valve 36 operated by a screw 37 to ducts 34 which supply it through adjustable nozzles to the brushes 32. The plate 33 may in addition carry other nozzles which supply paint outside the brushes. The brushes may be detachably mounted on the handle so as to be replaced by a single brush when it is desired to paint in a corner. When so desired, e.g. when not working at a height above the compressor, the air container 2 may be used to store compressed air. For this purpose byepass piping 38, 38<1>, 39 is provided. Air under pressure from the compressor 7 is supplied through a three-way cock 42 and pipes 43, 38, 381 to a storage chamber 40 between the containers 1, 2. After a while, the pump 7 is stopped, and this chamber 40 is placed into communication with the paint container 2 by a byepass 39 through a reducing valve 41 by which the pressure may be regulated. A stirrer 15 driven through reduction gearing from the motor 6 reaches down to the bottom of the paint container 2.
