[Class 138 (ii)] The clothes container 2 is provided with upper and lower perforated walls 7, 3 providing communication respectively with the cylinder of a reciprocating pump and with an annular liquid reserve cham. ber 11. The piston 9 of the pump may b e reciprocated manually or by an electric motor or, as shown, by a hydraulic motor. A piston 14 is provided on the piston rod 10 and water under pressure from a supply pipe 22 is admitted to each face of the piston 14 alternately through a valve 21 operated by the movement of an extension 28 of the piston rod. Alternatively the pipe 22 may communicate with a source of suction such as a vacuum cleaner.
