Abstract
420,025. Mounting aeroplane engines. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and BARNWELL, F. S., Filton House, Bristol. Aug. 30, 1933, No. 24063. [Class 4] A mounting ring or the like for a radialcylinder aircraft engine has a detachable portion 17 to facilitate mounting the engine when certain projecting accessories, e.g. carburetters and magnetos are in place on the engine. As shown, the engine is bolted to the L-sectioned mounting-ring secured to the aircraft by longitudinally arranged tubes 12 having cross-bracing 13 and struts 14. The ends 18 of the larger portion 11 of the ring have tongues 19 riveted thereto and shaped to fit the cross-section of the ring. as shown in Fig. 4. The portion 17 of the ring is first bolted to the engine which is then bolted to the portion 11 ; the portions 11, 17 are then bolted together and to the engine by bolts passing through holes 20 in the portion 17 and tongues 19. The portion 17 may be hinged at one end to the ring and any number of detachable portions may be provided. The ring may be in the form of an apertured plate.
