Abstract

419,950. Wrapping-machines. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd., Albion Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. May 22, 1933, No. 14689. [Class 94 (i).] In wrapping-machines of the kind described in British Specification 237,734, [Class 94 (i)], and in U.S.A. Specification 586,076, a control device is used in connection with the folder for laying the first flap. The mould wheel 10 carries a series of pockets 11 which are presented in turn to the sheet-feeding, filling, and folding devices, which operate simultaneously at adjacent positions. The wrapping material is fed by hooks 17 on a chain 16 to a position beneath a trigger 18 which forwards it on to a platform 21. The platform is moved downwards and a plunger 25 forces the wrapper into a mould 11. The positioning is such that the rear flap 27 is longer than the flap 28. A ledge 29 on the plunger bends the flap 28 downwards. A charge of tobacco is pressed down a shoot 14 by a plunger 15, during which operation the laterally projecting edges of the wrapper are suitably held. At the next position, a flaplifting device 32, for example, of the kind described in Specification 270,866, [Class 94 (i)], raises the flap 27 into position for engagement with a folder 31. A control member 35 is mounted on an arm 36 pivoted at 34 and moving with the arm 33 carrying the folder. The control member comprises two rows of pegs 37, 38 or a bar of L-shaped cross-section supported at its angle on the bar 35. In the position shown in Fig 1, the flap 27 is supported between the device 32 and the pegs 37. The arms 33 are now rotated into the position shown in Fig. 5 the folder 31 turning the flap down and the pegs 37, 38 controlling the free end. When the position shown in Fig. 6 is reached, the flap is pressed down flat, and the movable side 12 of the mould moves away to allow a finger 40 to turn the overhanging edge of the flap upon the side of the tobacco. The side 12 returns and the flap 28 is folded down by known means.
