Abstract

419,378. Clockwork-actuated valves. GAUSDEN, A. H., 1, St. Margarets Road, Hooley, Coulsdon, Surrey. May 12, 1933, No. 13861. [Class 135.] A time-temperature controller for domestic and industrial appliances is actuated by a clockwork mechanism set in motion thermostatically at a predetermined starting temperature and stopped automatically on the expiration of a predetermined time means being provided to maintain a predetermined temperature. The Figures show the invention applied to the actuation of the gas valve for a domestic oven. The main gas cock 2 is adapted to be moved into its open position by a spring loaded handle and is retained in this position by a spring pressed catch 30 engaging a lip on a disc 31. The disc 31 has a cam surface adapted to operate a lever 33 to engage a pin on a rotatable member 22 so that as the cock is opened, a brake pad 24 on the member 22 engages the balance wheel 27 of the clockwork to stop the clock. At starting the member 22 is held in this position by a pivoted catch 20 held by an adjustable abutment 17<a> operated by the thermostat. On the required temperature being attained the catch 20 is released and the member 22 is rotated by the spring 25 to start the clockwork which slowly rotates a plate 28 from an initial position adjusted by an external knob to a position in which a projection 28<a> engages the catch 30 which it operates to permit the main valve to be closed by the spring 37. The thermostat acts through a bell-crank lever 12 and adjustable tappet 15 to move a piston valve 20 slidably mounted in a bore in the main cock. When applied to electrical apparatus a rotary switch replaces the plugcock.
