Abstract

418,813. Wrapping-machines. BASSAT, H., Ohligs, Solingen, Germany. July 10, 1934, No. 20201. [Class 94 (i).] Safety razor blades 2, Fig. 1, are mounted on a strip 1 having recesses 4 and tongues 5 adapted to pass through the end holes 6, being turned down flat to secure the blades. Perforations 7 facilitate separation into individual packets. The strip 1, and a backing strip 3 which may bear advertisements, are drawn beneath a vertically movable die 10, Fig. 3, which cooperates with a fixed die 9 and is actuated by an eccentric 15 to form the recesses 4 and the tongues 5, a cutter 24 forming the perforations 7 at the same time. The strip is fed by a gripper 29 pivoted at 28 to a slide 25. The slide is reciprocated by a connecting rod 33, pivoted at 32 to the gripper, and to a pin 34 adjustably mounted on a wheel 35. The action is such that the gripper is first rotated in a clockwise direction to clamp the strip against the slide, which is then moved to the right, Fig. 3, further rotation of the wheel 35 disengages the gripper and returns the slide. The strip passes to a drum 43, Fig. 15, upon which it is pressed by spring strips 45<a> to cause teeth 44 to push the tongues 5 upwards and to enter the incisions corresponding thereto. A blade 2 is now positioned by fingers so that the tongues 5 pass into the end holes 6 and the strip passes beneath a folding plate 85 having oblique edges 86 which turn down the tongues and cause them to overlie the surface of the blade and secure it to the strip. The blades are fed by the apparatus shown in Figs. 11 and 14. They are held on prongs 55 on a plate 54 sliding in a support 56, and, after arrival above a feeding plate 57 are pressed downwards by a weight 60 so that the lowermost enters into a recess 63 of just sufficient size to receive one blade in a position below the ends of the prongs 55. The feeding plate moves into juxta-position with fingers 45, Fig. 11, covered with rubber 71, so that the fingers are disposed above and below the blade respectively, the lower blade having entered a recess 70 in the feeding plate. The fingers are actuated to close upon the blade, and, after the withdrawal of the feeding plate 57, move downwards with it to the position shown in Fig. 15. The strip may be severed at intervals along the line of the perforation.
