Abstract
418,495. Opening or disintegrating wood shavings, straw, wool waste, &c. KRISTOFFERSEN, O., 35, Ullevalsveien, 2, Opg. II, Oslo, Norway. April 18,1934, No. 11668. [Class 120 (i).] In the separation of the individual fibres in wood shavings, straw, wool waste &c., the material is opened or beaten in a machine comprising a drum 6 revolving in a casing 1, 2, Figs. 1 and 2, and provided with teeth or ribs 16 which intermesh with ribs 10 on the casing, the projecting ribs 16 exerting a resilient pressure against the sides of the ribs 10. The ribs 16 which are keyed to the drum 6 at 22 are formed with a narrow front 17 and widen to a tail-shaped back 18 having two branches 19, 20, Fig. 3. As shown, the ribs 10 are similarly wedge-shaped but are not bifurcated. If desired, however, both sets of ribs may be constructed as at 16. The material is fed in at 5 and conveyed by the screw 15 through the machine to the discharge aperture 26. Liquid may be added to the material to facilitate treatment, while binders and fillers may be mixed therewith for the preparation of insulating material, building slabs &c.
