417,665. Automatic regulation. LEDWARD, T. A., 75, Dovercliffe Road, Stoneycroft, Liverpool. April 8, 1933, No. 10522. [Class 38 (iv).] A barretter resistor with positive resistancetemperature coefficient in series in a main circuit wherein the current is kept constant is heated by current flowing in an auxiliary circuit, the heat developed in an auxiliary resistor through which the current varies with the voltage being transferred to the barretter resistor in quantity just sufficient to maintain the current in the main circuit constant, the two resistances being connected together and to the same supply. The Figure shows one circuit, the supply terminals 1, 2 feeding the circuit 3, 4 in which the current is kept constant, the barretter 5 being heated by the resistor 6 in series with a variable or fixed impedance 10. Subsidiary impedances 8, 9 may be employed. If the resistance 6 has a high positive resistance-temperature coefficient it can function as part of the barretter 5. Transformer connections to the circuits can be employed and the subsidiary impedances may be chokes or condensers.
