Abstract
416,843. Refrigerating. NORMELLI, W. B., 11, Kaiserdamm, Charlottenburg, Berlin. Dec. 21, 1932, No. 36186. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1931. [Class 29.] Absorption systems ; cold accumulators.-Strontium bromide is employed as absorbent with ammonia as refrigerant in air-cooled reversing systems. The apparatus may comprise two generator-absorber vessels 1, Fig. 1, traversed by heated flues 2, a number of gilled condenser elements 5, a refrigerant receiver 7 enclosed by aluminium foil or other insulation, and an evaporator coil 13 in a cold accumulator tank containing a liquid such as an aqueous solution of glycerine to which alcohol may be added. A second lower tank 16 may contain water, nitrobenzol or other liquid of higher freezing point than the main body of liquid. Specifications 285,798, [Class 29], 348,350, and 381,314 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the following : Ethylamine may be used in place of ammonia as refrigerant. Apparatus in which indirect cooling by air is employed comprises an annular generator-absorber vessel 201, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in a water jacket 203 connected to a water tank 216 cooled partly by air and partly by water in an outer tank 213. The generator-absorber is heated by an element in a central flue 202, which is surrounded by a corrugated iron sleeve contacting with the wall of the generator-absorber. The condenser coil 205 is immersed in a solid substance 206 such as sodium phosphate adapted to melt in taking up heat of condensation, the heat being given up partly to the outer air and partly to the water in the outer tank 213. Some of this warm water may be drawn off at a cock for domestic use, and make-up water is supplied through a float valve 225, which actuates a switch 228 to cut off the heating-current at low-water level. The water in the outer tank may be kept cool by evaporation from a porous wall 217, which is lined on the inside with copper. The condenser is connected with an insulated receiver 208 and with an evaporator 210 located in a tank 219 for glycerine solution. A valved pipe 212 serves for discharging air from the system. It is stated that the heat of absorption may be utilized for heating air for a drying chamber built into the refrigerating chamber. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
