Abstract
416,794. Cleaning boiler &c. tubes. THOMAS, W. P., 69, Rhode Island Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan, U.S.A. March 21, 1933, No. 8553. [Class 99 (ii).] The tubes of a boiler &c. are cleaned by affixing blower tubes to some of them, the blower tubes being of U- or crescent-shape in crosssection and provided with apertures through which cleaning fluid such as steam may be projected. The blower tubes are preferably welded to the boiler tubes and extend along the whole length thereof ; further each is of such a size that it does not project radially beyond the relatively cool zone surrounding its associated boiler tube, that is more than 1¢ inches with standard boiler tubes of from 3“ to 4 inches diameter. In Fig. 1, which shows one bank of tubes of a boiler, the tubes of the row nearest the furnace are all provided with blower tubes 24-29. The latter tubes are supplied with cleaning steam from a valve-controlled pipe 23 extending along the lower drum 13 and are provided with apertures 48, Fig. 5, so disposed as to project the steam in the direction of travel of the flue gases. Two blower tubes 43, 44 may be located on a single boiler tube, and each may be provided with two apertures 50, 51, Fig. 4, or with a single aperture. In a modification, Fig. 7, the cleaning steam supply pipe 31 is located within the lower drum 32 of the boiler and has branches 33, 34 leading to the blower tubes 35, 36 which are mounted on the boiler tubes 37, 38 and are provided with nozzles 44.
