This invention relates toboiler cleaners and has particular reference to a boiler cleaner of the type which includes means for discharging jets of cleaning fluid adjacent portions of the boiler to be cleaned.
One of the primary objects of this invention is to provide in a boiler cleaner of the above mentioned character, means for prolonging the life of the pipes and conduits which are provided for supplying cleaning fluid to the blower elements of the boiler cleaner. I
Further the invention contemplates the provision of means whereby the cleaning fluid supply conduits and the like will be maintained relatively cool even during periods when cleaning fluid is not passing through the same.
This application is a division of my co -pending application Serial Number 428,721 filed February 15, 1930, which has now issued as Patent No. 1,992,336.
Numerous other objects and advantages of this invention will become moreapparent as the following description proceeds particularly when reference is had to the accompanying drawings wherein Fig. 1 is a semi-diagrammatic elevational view of a portion of a boiler showing my invention applied to the same;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view partly in section of the structure shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2;

Referring then particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout all views, the numeral I designates generally a boiler having upper and lower headers or drums II and I2 respectively. Connecting the boiler headers in accordance with the usual practice, is a bank l of boiler tubes, the tubes being suitably arranged in rows and the lowermost row or that row nearest the firebox being designated by the reference character IS. By integrally uniting the blower element forming members 18 to the boiler tubes I9, it will be understood that the! blower element forming members will be maintained relatively 0001 even during the periods when they are not being supplied with cooling fluid. It is to be understood however, that if desired, the blower elements may be of any desired character, that is either integrally secured to certain boiler tubes as illustrated, or free from connection with the boiler tubes, the present invention being directed more particularly to the means for supplying cleaning fluid to these blower elements or passages.
Referring now more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, the numeral 25 designates a cleaning fluid supply header which, as illustrated, projects exteriorly of the boiler wall and is preferably provided with a control valve 26. This header extends longitudinally of and lies close adjacent the boiler drum or header 12 with the result that this header is maintained relatively cool by virtue of the cooling influence of the relatively cool drum.

Asthus far described, it will beapparent that the invention provides blower elements suitably located within a boiler for discharging cleaning fluid adjacent portions of the boiler to be cleaned. ,While these blower elements may be of any desired character, they are preferably integrally united with certain of the boiler tubes of the boiler so that they are maintained relatively cool by these boiler tubes.
The invention further provides a cleaning fluid header which although it is disposed within the boiler is positioned in proximity to andpreferably above the boiler drum or header so that it is not only kept cool by the relatively cool boiler drum but is also shielded by the latter from direct contact with the products of combustion and furnace gases. Connecting the supply header to the blower elements are branch supply pipes which possess a degree of yieldability andwhich also lie close adjacent the boiler drum and also close adjacent the boiler tubes so that these branch supply pipes are likewise maintained relatively cool.
Thus with the construction as thus far described, it will be apparent that the blower elements and the supply pipes and conduits therefor will be protected from destruction by the heat of the furnace even during the intervals when they are not supplied with relatively cool cleaning fluid. Thus the invention provides a construction which may be incorporated in a relatively hot part of the boiler but which will nevertheless possess a relatively prolonged life.
In Figs. 4 and 5, a slightly modified type of construction is disclosed inwhich boiler tubes 35 and 36 are disclosed as communicating with a boiler drum or header 31. Extending longitudinally of the boiler tubes 35 are'blower elements 40 provided with suitable discharge nozzles M for directing jets of cleaning fluid adjacent portions of the boiler to be cleaned.
Extending longitudinally of the boiler tubes 36 are blower elements 45, these elements being likewise provided with suitable discharge nozzles 46. As in the previously described form of construction, the blower elements are preferably crescent shaped members welded or otherwise formed substantially integral with their respective boiler tubes, whereby the blower elements are maintained relatively cool.
In this modified form of construction there is disclosed a cleaning fluid supply header 50 which is disposed wholly within the boiler drum 31 and which is therefore fully protected by the fluid or the vapor in this boiler drum. It .will be understood that at its ends the header'projects exteriorly of the boiler wall and is preferably provided with one or more valves for controllingthe flow of cleaning fluid to and through the header.
Connecting the blower elements 40 to the header 50 are branch pipes 5|, these branch pipes passing through the wall of the boiler drum 3'! and communicating with the blower elements as at 52. It will be noted that even exteriorly of the boiler drum these branch pipes lie close adjacent the boiler drum and their respective boiler tubes and further are shielded from the furnace gases by their respective boiler tubes,
For supplying cleaning fluid from the header 50 to the blower elements 45,.branch pipes 55 are provided, these branch pipes being disposed wholly within the vapor space of the boiler. Thus the branch pipes 55 pass through the boiler'drum and through the tubes 36 communicating with their respectiveblower elements by way of fittings 58 disposed within the'boiler tubes 36. t
In this modified form of construction it will be apparent that the blower elements which are integrally united with the boiler tubes are protected by virtue of their association with the boiler tubes from the extreme heat of the boiler. Thus it will be apparent that the invention provides blower elements which preferably are integrally united with relatively cool boiler parts so as to be maintained relatively cool. Additionally, theinvention provides supply pipes and conduits for supplying cleaning fluid to these blower elements, these conduits and the pipes being so arranged that they are also adequately protected from destruction by the heat of the boiler..
For the sake'of convehiencafthe invention has been described'as being embodied in'a cleaner for cleaning boilers. It will beapparent however, that the inventive principles disclosed may be embodied in a device 'for cleaning'k'apparatus similar to boilers and it is to be therefore understood that wherever the word boilers is utilized, it is to be construed as meaning heatexchange apparatus of any character whatever; while the 5 words boiler cleaner are tob'e construed as meaning a cleaner for any such type of apparatus.
While the invention ha s' bleen described with some detail, it is to be understood-that the description is for the purposes of illustration only and is not definitive of the limits of the inventive idea. The right is reserved'to'make such changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will fall within the purview of the attached claims. v p
What I claim as my invention is:'
1. In a boiler cleanerfor a boiler of the type which includes a header'and fluid circulating tubes communicating withsaid header, a blower element disposed in said boiler for directing cleaning fluid adjacent'parts thereof-to be cleaned, and means for supplying cleaning fluid to said blower element including a' main cleaning fluid supply line locatedin said header. 1
2. In a cleaner fora boiler of-the'typ'e which includes a boiler "drum and boiler tubescommunicating with said drum,"a=blo'wer element associated with one of saidtubes for discharging cleaning fluid adjacentportions ofthe boiler to be cleaned; a main cleaning 'fluid supply'hea'der extending longitudinally of said drum and within the same, and a conduit passingthrough said boiler drum connecting said header to the blower element.

In a boilerclea'ner of the type which includes drum and the portion'th'ereof which is disposed a header and a boiler tube communicating with said header, a blower element associated with the boiler tube, a cleaning fluid supply line disposed in said header, and a branch supply pipe connecting said cleaning fluid supply line and said blower element, said branch supply pipe being disposed wholly within the said header and boiler tube.
5. In a boiler cleaner for a boiler of the type which includes a boiler drum and a fluid circulating tube communicating therewith, a blower element associated with the boiler tube, a main cleaning fluid supply header disposed within the boiler drum and extending longitudinally thereof, and a branch cleaning fluid supply pipe passing through the boiler drum and the boiler tube for connecting the blower element to the main cleaning fluid supply header.
6. In a boiler cleaner for a boiler of the type which includes a boiler drum and a boiler tube communicating therewith, a blower element integrally united with the boiler tube and having an inlet opening through a wall of the boiler tube, a cleaning fluid supply header disposed within the boiler drum, and a branch supply pipe connecting the cleaning fluid supply header and the blower element, said branch supply pipe passing through the boiler drum and boiler tube and communicating with the inlet opening in the blower element.
7. In a cleaner for a boiler of the type which includes a fluid circulating system and means for heating the fluid circulating through said system, a blower element disposed in said boiler for directing cleaning fluid adjacent parts thereof to be cleaned, and means for supplying cleaning fluid to said blower element including a main cleaning fluid supply line located in the fluid circulatory system of the boiler.
8. In a cleaner for a boiler of the type which includes a header and boiler tubes connected to said header, a blower element disposed in said boiler and having its one end adjacent the header, a main cleaning fluid supply line, and a conduit connecting the main cleaning fluid supply line and the blower element, said conduit being so located with reference to one of the boiler tubes as to be shielded thereby from direct impingement by the products of combustion.
9. In a cleaner for a. boiler of the type which includes a boiler drum and boiler tubes communicating at their ends with said drum, a plurality of blower elements disposed in said boiler for directing cleaning fluid adjacent the portions thereof to be cleaned, said blower elements extending longitudinally of the boiler tubes whereby the ends thereof terminate adjacent the boiler drum, a main cleaning fluid supply header, and branches connecting said header to said blower elements, said branches being located adjacent said boiler drum and adjacent certain of said boiler tubes so as to be cooled by the same and said branches being further located in such a position as to be shielded by certain of said tubes from direct impingement by the products of combustion.
10. In a boiler cleaner for a boiler of the type which includes a header and a boiler tube connected to said header, a blower element disposed adjacent said boiler tube, and means for supplying a cleaning fluid to said blower element, said means including a cleaning fluid supply conduit extending through the boiler tube.
11. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler tube, and a blower element integrally secured to said boiler tube, of means for supplying cleaning fluid to said blower element including a cleaning fluid supply conduit communicating with said blower element through an opening in the boiler tube.
