Abstract

416,300. Valves. CROSS, R. C., 33, Midford Road, Odd Down, Bath. June 14, 1934, No. 17661. [Class 7 (vi).] Oil or other cooling-medium is supplied to tubes 3 extending through the stems of several poppet valves into the valve heads, by means of a conduit 10 which is arranged transversely alongside the valve axes and has ports 12 which register with passages 6 leading through the tappet bearings of the various valves to the hollow tappets 4 which communicate with the tubes 3. The conduit 10 is carried by a series of blocks 13 secured to the tappet bearings or their supports. The cooling-medium passes down outside the tubes 3 and through escape holes 8 in the valve stem, whence it spurts on to the engine casing and becomes cooled.
