Abstract
415,231. Tin-openers. GIBBONS BROS. ROTARY CO., Ltd., and GIBBONS, K. M., 53, Edward Street, Parade, Birmingham. June 6, 1933, No. 16227. [Class 66.] A tin-opener comprises a mounting plate 10 formed with an integral depending cutter 12 and with projections 13, 14 adapted to engage respectively upon the rim and the side wall of the tin. A traction wheel engaging the underside of the rim is mounted at one end of a spindle 16 which rides in a curved or inclined slot 15 formed in the plate and to which an operating handle 19 is attached by means of an attachment plate 21. The plate 21 is formed with cam-shaped projections 22, 24, either of which is adapted to be engaged by an abutment 23 to cause the shaft to rise in the slot and the traction wheel to engage the rim of the tin, first bringing down the point of the knife to pierce the end of the tin and thereafter riding along the rim as the cutting proceeds. Alternatively the cams may be provided on a separate plate disposed between the handle attachment member and the plate 10, and according to the Provisional Specification three cams may be so provided.
