Abstract

413,224. Slicing - machines. FITZPATRICK, H. O., 94, Hope Street, Glasgow.- (Maatschappij Van Berkel's Patent Naamlooze Vennootschap ; 33, Boezemsingel, Rotterdam, Holland.) Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2123. [Class 28 (ii).] In a slicing-machine wherein the substance is fed step by step across a support by a guided substance engager, an auxiliary support is provided to relieve the frictional drag on the main support, the auxiliary support being pivotally and slidably mounted on a guide and the substance engager being pivoted relative to the auxiliary support for use as a clamp or pusher. As shown in plan in Fig. 2, the main support 11 has an upstanding wall 11 and the auxiliary support 12 has an upstanding wall 12. The substance engager 16, 17 is carried by a bracket 18 having a boss 20 which is secured to a sleeve 21 slidable on a guide 22 attached to a bracket 10 on the reciprocating under carriage. The wall 12 of the support 12 is provided with a sleeve 23 which is revoluble on the sleeve 21 but is prevented from moving endwise by the boss 20 and a collar 24. In a modification, Fig. 4, the substance engager is movable relative to the support 12 to occupy either a forward position or a position more remote from the knife. In this construction, the sleeve 21 is provided, along the middle part of its length, with keys 31 to one of which the wall 12 is secured at 30, e.g. by welding. The boss 20 has corresponding keyways 32 one of which is open sided at 33, to permit the passage of the part 30. By raising the bracket 18, the keys 31 and the keyways 32 are aligned and the substance engager is then free to be slid along the sleeve 21 to its other position when, owing to the keyways 32 leaving the keys 31, the substance engager may be again swung down to its operative position. The reciprocation and feed of the substance is effected by the handle 19. The main support 11 may be provided with longitudinal ribs to reduce the friction between the supports 11, 12, and the support 12 may be provided with substance-engaging pins.
